Single malts are the product of a single distillery, with malted barley as the only grain ingredient. The barley is malted, which is a process of starting the barley seed to sprout by soaking it in water, and then interrupting the process via heat. Distilled twice in copper pot stills, the spirit is then matured in oak casks for at least three years. High-class single malt whiskies are sometimes matured for decades. Famous single malt whiskies include Balvenie, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Macallan, from Scotland.
Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch 12 year Old is patiently fermented for longer bringing its famous honeyed notes and making it super smooth. Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch has a fragrant nose that offers a light smokiness, incense, orange-zest and a touch of sherry. While remaining light on the tongue, an emphatically clean fruitiness is paired with very lively, fresh flavors; a bit oily with notes of tangerines.
Aberlour a’bunadh is a natural single cask strength malt whisky. Taken directly from specially selected sherry casks it is bottled as simply as possible without the use of modern filtering methods or the addition of water.
The three main characteristics that distinguish Aberlour a’bunadh from the other single malts are:
Original Cask Strength means that the whisky is bottled at the strength of the cask, which in the case of the first batch of a’bunadh is 59.6%. Not diluted, the whisky possesses a greater aromatic complexity. Most malts of the old days were cask strength. Not Chill-filtered and only the best Sherry Butts, which previously held oloroso.
Aberlour Single Malt Scotch 16 Year Old is matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and the finest ex-sherry butts. Ancnoc Single Malt Scotch 12 year old is produced at the Knockdhu distillery on the original style copper pot stills and worms, and it has been produced that way for over 100 years. The resulting whisky is aged in American oak and Spanish oak barrels which were previously used to age sherry.
Ardbeg Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 10 year Old is revered around the world as the peatiest, smokiest, most complex whisky of them all. Yet it does not flaunt the peat; rather the peat gives way to the malt, the natural sweetness of which subtly intrudes, producing perfect balance. The unusual spirit still with its purifier, the only one of its kinds on Islay, is what many believe contributes to this balance and complexity, making Ardbeg the malt to which all others aspire ….truly the Ultimate Islay Malt.
Ardmore Single Malt Scotch is a rich and creamy Whisky that has a full palate of peat, vanilla and sweet, ripe fruit. Balvenie Single Malt Scotch 12 Year gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. Over its period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor.
The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch 15 Year Sherry Cask is matured for a minimum of 15 years exclusively in a single European oak sherry butt. The 15-year maturation in a cask that has previously held Oloroso sherry creates a single malt characterized by dried fruit richness, nuttiness and spice. No more than 650 hand-numbered bottles are drawn from each sherry butt and each bottle carries the number of the cask in which it was matured.
Balvenie Single Malt Scotch 21 Year is a marriage of rare Balvenie transferred to port casks or pipes, which have held fine port wines. Benriach Single Malt Scotch Authenticus 21 year old is another peated expression of BenRiach, this time matured for a minimum of 21 years. A new smoked-oak glass that hints at their flavor has replaced the traditional emerald green of the 12 year old bottle.
