  • Patron Roca Anejo Tequila

Patron singlehandedly revolutionized the tequila segment, converting American drinkers from cheap, fiery mixto tequila to premium tequila made from 100% agave. Now, with literally hundreds of offerings in the premium tequila space, it’s hard to imagine a time when a liquor store might carry just a handful of brands. In the intervening years, Patron has expanded their offerings through innovation. Tthe Anejo is perhaps the closest cousin to Patron’s Gran Piedra release, although Roca Anejo was aged for only 14 months (versus 3 years for Piedra) and only in ex-bourbon barrels (Piedra added French oak to the mix). With Roca Anejo the time in barrel is clear with oak spice as one of the leading top notes in the nose.

  • Pernod Absinthe

While Pernod’s absinthe is not hallucinogenic, it’s not for the faint of heart: It’s 136-proof.
The brand calls itself the “original absinthe,” since its founder Henri-Louis Pernod helped create the first commercial absinthe distillery in 1798. In late 2013, Pernod Absinthe returned to its original formula. The spirit is now made using the same ingredients as in the early 1800s.
Absinthe was banned in the United States in 1912. Pernod reintroduced its spirit to America in 2007 after it became legal again. Pernod Absinthe was created in 1805, in France’s first absinthe distillery. After years of being banned, its recipe was re-launched in 2013 based on the original formula.

  • Pernod Aux Plantes Absinthe Superieure

According to legend, we owe this elixir to “Docteur Ordinaire”, a French doctor in exile in Switzerland. In 1805, the Pernod Fils Company from Pontarlier in France began distilling the secret formula. Absinthe was the subject of much stormy, impassioned debate, and was banned in 1915 in France. Pernod “aux extraits de plantes d’absinthe” calls for a special ritual, requiring particular skills. The water and absinthe plants extract form a subtle mixture, becoming an opal color and revealing complex flavors.
