Irish Whiskey for St Patrick’s Day

Saint Patrick's Day WhiskeyHell-Cat Maggie Irish Whiskey
Irish whiskey, so long in the doldrums, is experiencing a real renaissance right now. New distilleries are cropping up all over the landscape, new brands launched, new societies formed, as the world takes a renewed interest in Ireland’s native spirit. From two to four, to now 30 and growing. These distilleries are either currently operational, or are in some stage of imminent planning. It’s great news for Irish whiskey fans. More distilleries with more craftsmen behind them equals more innovation, and new and exciting products. Irish whiskey is once again on an upward curve, producing whiskey of real quality, versatility and consistency. Beyond that though, there’s also been a movement from large existing brands looking to make a large-scale and immediate impact.
Distilled in County Louth, Ireland, using the traditional single copper pot still method, Hell-Cat Maggie Irish Whiskey is named after a female hellraiser and member of a notorious Irish-American gang, the Dead Rabbits, during the 1850s in New York.

The Irish whiskey revolution continues with the launch of Hyde Irish Whiskey by Hibernia Distillers. Established in 2014 by brothers and West Cork natives Alan and Conor Hyde, Hibernia Distillers’ debut release draws on a centuries old Irish whiskey making tradition. HYDE No. 1 is a limited edition 10-year single malt Irish whiskey made from 100% malted Irish barley and distilled in a traditional copper pot still to produce a complex yet classically smooth single malt. The new whiskey joins an ever-growing list of new Irish whiskey brands, which includes the likes of Teelings Whiskey and The Irishman. Hyde is a limited edition single-malt Irish whiskey, made from 100 per cent malted Irish barley, aged for ten years and finished in Oloroso Sherry casks, named to celebrate Ireland’s first president, Douglas Hyde. It is also non-chilled filtered and cut with West Cork spring water, and then bottled with a unique number on each bottle.
